The King visits troops on the Western Front.
Today’s losses include:
- Captain Fane Wright Stapleton Murray(Lancers) is killed at age 35. He served in the South African War and has a brother who will be killed in March of next year. He is the son of Colonel Charles Edward Gosling Murray JP DL and grandson of the Right Reverend Lord George Murray Bishop of St David’s.
- Lieutenant John Herbert Butler Hollings(Lancers, Indian Army) is killed in action at age 26. He is the son of Herbert John Butler Hollings JP.
- Second Lieutenant Malcolm Arnold Hepburn (Seaforth Highlanders) is killed at Messines. His brother will be killed next April.
- Staff Sergeant John Twynam (South African Mounted Rifles) is killed by lightning. He is the first of four brothers who will lose their lives in the Great War.
