During the morning as the ship nears Rathlin Light the Cunard liner Andania is hit by a torpedo fired by the German submarine U-46. The ship immediately takes on a list to the starboard and begins to sink. Most of those on board are saved but seven lives are lost among them fourteen-year old

The armed trawler Cormorant IV and drifter Young Fred depth charge the German submarine UB-63 north of Ireland.
